AARO file DOW-UAP-PR106 is an 11-second infrared recording submitted by U.S. Northern Command from a military platform operating in the eastern United States in 2020. The accompanying Range Fouler debrief describes something small, metallic-looking and reflective underneath, continuing in a constant direction. Those witness descriptors are worth preserving. They are not measurements of size, speed or composition.

The most important sentence is the provenance warning

AARO states that the media was digitally altered before it was reported and is presented as received. That warning does not establish deception, and it does not make the clip worthless. It means the public file is not a clean native sensor product whose full processing history can be reconstructed.

Digital alteration can include cropping, recompression, annotation, contrast changes, frame-rate conversion or other transformations. Without an edit log and native file, an outside analyst cannot know which pixel behavior came from the scene, which came from the sensor and which came from later handling.

What the clip supports

The official description says an area of contrast appears above the center of frame. When the sensor changes modes, that area moves rapidly within the display and then leaves through the top. The sequence supports a narrow observation: an operator recorded an ambiguous contrast source while the imaging system changed state.

It does not independently show extraordinary acceleration. Apparent movement during a mode switch can reflect changes in field of view, image registration, stabilization or pointing. Without platform position, sensor angles, range and native timestamps, pixels per frame cannot be converted into reliable physical velocity.

Why witness language and video must remain separate

The debrief's metallic and reflective description may have been made under conditions not captured by the short public segment. It may also reflect inference from a display. A rigorous case file should preserve that testimony beside the imagery while labeling them as different evidence types. Combining them into a single confident object profile would hide uncertainty.

What would change the assessment

  • The native sensor file and checksum.
  • A documented export and alteration history.
  • Platform location, speed, attitude and sensor pointing.
  • Range or a defensible range bracket.
  • Weather, air-traffic and mission context.
  • The complete Range Fouler debrief with timing tied to the clip.

PR106 remains unresolved in the public catalog. That is a status, not an origin. The evidence-first conclusion is that the government released a short, previously altered infrared record with an associated witness description. The public package is insufficient to calculate anomalous performance or identify the source.
